Program Summary: The Community Christian Concern (CCC) is holding a summer long food drive to collect food items for their child summer food program, Feeding Summer Kids. During a regular school year, children in need are able to get meals from school programs, however, during the summer when schools are closed those meals disappear. Through their Feeding Summer Kids food program they hope to close that gap for these kids and put food into the hands of those families that need it most.
Distribution Method: Slidell/Pearl River area families are already able to receive food, clothing and hygiene items through scheduled appointments with the CCC counselors. Starting on May 22, 2023 and ending on August 31, 2023, families with children will receive a Summer Kid's box in addition to the regular food box the CCC counselors already provide to families.
What is in the Summer Kidās Box: The Summer Kid's boxes will be filled with child specific foods such as snacks, peanut butter & jelly, pop top foods, easy to make meals like mac nā cheese, and fresh produce if available.
The Need Is Great: A large percentage of community members helped by the CCC are families with children, especially single mothers. Nearly 20% of all Louisiana children live in food insecure households. That percentage is expected to increase with inflation already at a high and all food prices predicted to increase by 6% this year (US Department of Agriculture). Hunger affects every parish and St. Tammany is no exception.
How YOU Can Help: Food donations can be dropped off 05/01/23-08/31/23 inside the food pantry at 2515 Carey Street; look for the door that says āFood Pantryā. Monetary donations can be given to the receptionist at the front desk. All donations can be dropped off Monday-Friday from 9am to 2pm. Larger donations collected by organizations, businesses, schools or churches can email the pantry coordinator, Stephen Dove, at cccfoodpantry0357@gmail.com for possible pick up. Call the front office at (985) 646-0357 for more information or to speak directly with Stephen. Community members can also help by spreading the word about this program and food drive.
